Cannot Find Correct Shifter Handle Bushing for 1966

I just rebuilt my original '66 shifter linkage and went to install the T-Handle Bushings I got from Zip (ST-224); when installed the T-handle will not slide

onto the shifter shaft even with the bushings lubricated. As you can see in the attached pictures, the replacement bushing, which is white, is too thick and too long compared to the original. I called Zip and they said they got them from Long Island and have sold 80 pairs with no problems reported. When I disassembled the shifter there was only one original bushing as opposed to two which is shown in the shop manual. The shifter handle is original equipment GM #3863363.

Phil - I've never found any of the new version bushings matching the old original bushings for thickness. I even tried using a sandpaper flapper in an illfated attempt to thin out the replacement bushing but no dice. Replacement bushing on the left, new bushing on the right.

        Hi Joe,
Does that Volvette part work as is, or do you modify it at all?

Phil, the bushing costs three bucks plus shipping. For that, take the chance!

            Phil,

I think your black bushing is a replacement as I've only seen white bushings on shifters. The repro unit maybe to thick and I thought they only used one bsuhing not two. If your going to lubircate the bushing a use synethic oil as a lubircant.

Thanks, Mike. Your one bushing suggestion may be correct. Hah, my original bushing is white except for years of grime and discoloration.

I splurged, JR, and got the one from Volunteer which is the same shown by Mike Tarrant. Still doesn't work!
