Re: POR 15 Chassis Black Paint

I used it on my '70 frame. With the frame properly prepped and POR15 properly applied, it provides a very durable finish. It goes on significantly thicker than the original finish which makes it look a bit different. So a great product for protecting the frame but with a bit different finish.

I think powder coating is the way to go. it's far less money, tougher, and gets where you cant painting.
A good powder coating co took me thru a tour and after blasting the frame is washed and dried, then hung, coated and thru the oven. First frame was 500.00 about 15 years ago. Can't get it blasted for that. 2nd was a bit more, but had all the suspention and so forth.
Look's positivly great at less cost, and can be painted. There are painters here that get things powder coated sand prime and paint.

I have to agree. When my '67 was body off frame restored back in 2012, the frame was powder coated. Looks every bit as nice today...almost 50,000 miles later. Recent picture below.

                leif,
Just makes you want to stand back and look at it. I did. I like doing all my work, BUT, when there is something better , I go for it.

Powder coating is a great option. The last two cars dad and I restored that’s what we did. For the price of powder coating you can’t paint with conventional epoxy paint. I used POR on my chevelle 16 years ago and 12 years ago I wished I never herd of it

After 10 years, POR15 is holding up well. I refinished the frame with the body installed, so POR with a foam brush was a workable option.

I use a lot of POR15 on iron parts and some steel. You have to follow every step for it to last. I used it on my frame and it held up fine but I found it works best on blasted, etched parts first.

I used POR 15 on my 66 frame with good results. Like any paint job, it is all in the preparation that you do. I put cardboard on the floor before I started to apply the POR 15. You will use a lot of rubber gloves - do NOT get it on your skin.
                          Good Luck

Thanks to all who have replied.

This is a body on frame repaint from the doors back. I will be sanded, and prepped to the best of my abiities. Just looking for the correct "flat" black frame paint as described in the 1965 TIMJG that will be easy to shoot either from a detail gun or rattle can.

                            Any other paint brand suggestions?

Hi James, hope all is well. Never try to spray POR15 unless you have a fresh air system, bad stuff to inhale.
