3x2 Air Filter Options- foam or K&N

For 67-69 L71 or L68, other than running the OEM type foam filter, I can only find a K&N. No "regular" paper filter - or am I looking in the wrong place?

WRT the foam filter, I suppose running it without oil is not recommended. I've concluded from reviewing posts on the forum that oiling it will result in excess oil finding it's it's way to at least the air cleaner base which has been my experience as well. I just had my carbs done and hate to think that the could get "oiled".

I was not able to find a paper filter element for the 3-2s on my '67 when I had it, so went with the K&N. I was told at the time that was much better than any of the foam type ones as a filter element for driving the car. Good luck.

Do you use that as a daily driver air filter element?

Yes. Right now it's the only filter I have. So the car is a driver - you know, a few times a week when weather is nice - that's why I was wondering if running the dry foam air filter would be an issue. I'm thinking so but wanted to get others' insights but I'm only in "standard" conditions, no dirt roads for example.

Go to www.baldwinfilters.com. Type the AC number into the cross reference box to see if they have a replacement. If they do it will likely be a high quality cellulose filter.

I have always replaced the filter elements used for judging with good quality ones as I converted to driving them. The original style ones are not good for driving. I have an oiled foam one (correct for judging) for my '65 L79, I quickly replaced with a NAPA Gold one for driving.

Yes, that's it. I used it for several years and it was fine. I bought mine at NAPA:

                    Thanks, Michael
NAPA was out of stock, so I ordered right from K&N.
Did you apply a light coating of oil to the element? - or is that not needed on this kind of filter?
                    thx,

The K&N come with an oil already applied. These are "permanent" reusable filters, made to be cleaned and re-oiled. I have one in my Shelby F-150 that I do that with every 25K miles or so. Here is the recharge kit: https://www.knfilters.com/99-5000-fi...ce-kit-aerosol
