    72 LT1 renovation question

We’re working on our72 LT1 C60 preparing for an upcoming flight judging event, and need help if our car is supposed to have a copper braided ground strap @ the passenger side #1 body mount bracket.

I haven’t found anything is the 6th edition TIM JG manual or the 72 assembly manual. My understanding is the strap has a clip on one end and a round copper eyelet attached on the other end, and was clipped to the body mount bracket (on the inside of the frame) and ground on the other end?

My online research indicates this strap might be a ground for the radio.

Attached is a photo of the ground strap

You will find it in the U69 section in the back of your AIM, along with the other ground straps.

Kind of confusing here, but my 1970 AIM, UPC U69 (radio) Sheet A8 shows the birdcage and exhaust pipe ground straps, but it has a CANCELLED stamp on the page. The Revision Note block has a date of 1-9-70 with Revision Record stating "SHEET CANCELED".

But the 6th edition of the 70-72 TIM&JG shows the exhaust pipe ground straps on page 221, Fig 6.6 and 6.8, but not Fig 6.7.

Interested to know what happened and why?

          Signed, confused!

PS - because my '70 is Concours and not Top-Flight category, I decided to add the birdcage and exhaust pipe ground straps just as an added measure of radio interference protection. It doesn't hurt ...

            Bill,
In the 1970-72 TIM&JG Page 221 the text next to Fig. Ch 6.7 (to the left of it) states that 1970s had the ground straps you are asking about and 1971 & 1972 did not.

No need for confusion. JG p.221, 4th paragraph, last sentence (referring to the ground strap on exhaust and underbody reinforcement to frame): “1971 and 1972 models do not have these.” There is no reference to these in the U69 section of the 71 AIM, either.
The “canceled” notation on the 1970 sheet is dated 1/9/70, so right at the beginning of production. One might surmise that only very early 70’s had them, but who knows when St. Louis actually implemented the change. If your car had no sign of them, that’s very likely because it never had them.

                Re: 72 LT1 renovation question

                Thanks Terry & Mike!

Mine is a mid-June '70 and had no sign of either straps, but as the 3rd owner in 1977, couldn't definitively say that it didn't originally come equipped with.

It seems that Production incorporations of various Engineering Changes may be a case of using up stock that might otherwise stay in inventory or other scheduling decisions on a case-by-case basis ...

If only we could have been flies on the wall during those types of meetings and decisions at St. Louis and Warren, MI ...

Maybe Terry and Mike snuck in and added them sometime when I wasn't home?

Sure, I did that when I was more svelte -- back when I used to judge chassis. Mike was along as the wheel man.

Curious. My 70 LT-1, like yours, built date July 6 #14195. Seems like a lot of cars made that Monday. Or not?
