    Re: QR code?

Don’t know anything about Facebook. Never had it never will.Track what I do and what I buy and everything else associated with today’s society any way that big brother or any social media cares to. I can take it. Just know I like corvettes. It seems to me that the organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation o that car has to explain Facebook and then dangle the possibility/opportunity to own a highly desirable corvette or corvettes , to increase the membership. The love of the car, the engineering, mystique if you will. The longevity of the organization is determined by the enthusiasm that the people have for the car. My son is a car fanatic loves his motorcycles and trucks , respect corvettes for their place in the hierarchy of the automobile but really would dedicate his time to other interests. The Corvette will live forever in history as America’s sports car. It will be respected for its place in automobile history no matter how we feel about it.

        Re: QR code?

As I stated I am not a fan of Facebook. I don't need to explain my reasons.

Saying that, I do agree that the younger generations believe it came from Valhalla and use it like breathing air with no regard to what havoc it might bring them in the future. Be that as it may, it is a communications vehicle that works to touch, encourage and enlighten folks about NCRS. If it helps increase our membership, I'm fine with the tool. But I will never use it.

          QR codes are good tools.

Question is - how to reach the younger generations and get them interested in our Corvettes ?

How about a hiring someone who knows how to reach younger generations and create a marketing plan ?

I see that as the biggest problem Gary. The 20-50 year olds I know and meet are not interested in C1 to C4 Corvettes, a few are C5, more are C6, most want C7 and C8+ (where the most interest is and where the typical local Corvette clubs focus). I guess if we focus mostly on C5 up, we could attract more. Maybe start judging C7s early?

Interest in history and old cars will never go away. I remember how enamored I was with our neighbor's Model A Ford when I was about 10 years old. He took me for a few rides in that car and I have loved them ever since. My sister owned 3 Corvettes in a row - '76, '80 and '82. She would pay me to perform routine maintenance and let me borrow them when I had a "hot" date. This helped form my connection with Corvettes. There will always be people who spend their weekends at flea markets searching for antiques. This article is a bit off topic, but it illustrates how we remain fascinated with things both tangible and antiquated.

None of the recruiting methods discussed in this thread are mutually exclusive. We should use any and every tool at our disposal. If every current member made it their mission to recruit just one new member this year, we would double the size of the club in just one year. Use whatever method(s) you are comfortable with.

                    Re: QR code?

While I don't have much time to devote to looking at Facebook, I have seen first hand how beneficial is has been for attracting new, younger members. Brad Hillhouse has been extremely successful making contact with and attracting new members using the platform. While I don't know others who have had as much success as Brad, hopefully they are out there.

Just because it's something you want to avoid personally, I believe it's a serious mistake scoffing at a tool that leads a potentially interested person to the NCRS Facebook page. Instead, we ought to recognize that it can be a useful tool for those who do want to use it. And, thank them for doing so.

To keep our organization vibrant, it seems to be we clearly need to attract younger folks. My sons and the younger "kids" at my company prefer using technology in ways many of us older guys don't fully understand, appreciate or embrace. Facebook is but one example.

QR Codes are another example. We utilize them in my business on our eight delivery trucks that operate in my hometown and the surrounding areas. We have attracted new customers after they were sitting in traffic behind one of our trucks and used the CR code.

My hope is that IF we attract younger people to the NCRS, they will be further exposed to other generations of Corvettes than maybe the ones they are most familiar with. If the younger generation doesn't get interested in the earlier cars, what's likely to happen to the value of our cars?

I personally salute the NCRS leadership for developing and utilizing tools to attract new members to our organization. And, hope they continue doing so!

I guess I am going to have to ask an obvious question at this point: Is there an organized effort to recruit new members and if so how does it work and how do we in the chapters fit into it?

Though our hobby is based on nostalgia, we still need to embrace modern methods to promote it.

                            Mike -

As someone that has revitalized a struggling chapter, I've got lots of new and exciting ideas to help invigorate chapters that may need a new infusion of life and excitement. That is one of the reasons I am running for NCRS Regional VI director and if elected, jumpstarting New Mexico chapter is one of my top priorities if you and the NM officers are interested in my ideas. I don't have all the answers, but I've travelled 80,000 miles in the last 4 years learning how to build a better Nebraska chapter and I think many of those ideas can be implemented in other chapters as well.

Thanks Brad, John Marsico has also promised to try and make us a fully functioning chapter if elected, so maybe miracles can happen.
