63-67 small block intake end rail seal question

Where all the intake end rails seals with the square little tab stamped with GM or where some not stamped at all. I never knew there was a tab until i saw it in the judging manual as all the sets i have installed since 1972 first year of trade school never had a tab
    Any info would be great
    thanks Bob Peckham

      Mike
I have some NOS intake gasket sets [NONE FOR SALE] with the GM on the tab, so it wasn't only the factory installed gaskets that have the GM mark. I believe someone has reproduced the end (China wall) gaskets with this feature, but don't quote me on that.

over the years, I've purchased many NOS GM intake gasket sets with end seals containing the square tab with GM embossments. bought them at flea markets, Carlisle, Bloomington , over the chevy counter and eBay. If they were in a 70's or 80's GM package, they had the square tabs with GM embossment. nuff said. mike

I have several sets of NOS GM Intake Manifold Gasket sets. They have the rubber end gaskets and have the GM logo. But they have thelocating nibs on the bottom which I believe were used on 1970 and later blocks. But it's possible that the nibs can be cut off and used for eariler blocks. Is it possible that eariler blocks used a cork gasket? I currently have a set on eBay for a very reasonable price. See photos below. If I am incorrect on using them for older blocks please chime in. I would to know for sure. Thanks, Rocco

The change of the end seal configuration occurred for 1969 and later small blocks. The gasket set you picture is for 1969 and later small blocks. The side gaskets can be used for earlier small blocks but the end seals cannot be used for earlier small blocks and cannot be modified for such use.

this is a photo of my 67 300 HP that has never been apart or out of the car from new.
I assume this might be the GM tab that is being looked for.

Yes, this is the style tab seen on the 1968 and earlier small block end seals. However, the design of these seals is different than the 1969+. The 1968 and earlier end seals have locating tabs on the sides of the seal. These tabs fit down over the sides of the block end rails and keep the seals in the proper position on the end rails.

The 1969+ end seals do not have the aforementioned locating tabs. Instead, they have "mini posts" along the lower center of the seals which fit down into corresponding holes in the end rails. This serves the same function as the 1968 and earlier but is a completely different means of accomplishing that function.

Actually, with the 1969 and later seal design and location of the GM embossment, I do not see how the embossment could be very visible with the manifold installed.

                    Joe & Dean,

Thanks for your replies. I now know the exact applications for my gasket sets. Its 1969 and not 1970.

Deans photos of his original 1967 300HP got me curious. So I looked closely at my original 1967 350HP (L79) and the end seal is just like yours. I never noticed it under the heater hose and A/C in the way. Here's photos of mine. You learn something every day. Rocco
