Recommendations on a new set of redlines for my 69

    Guys,

I'm looking to order a new set of redlines for my 69. These will not be used for judging. Looking for the best ride/look three is out there. I did a search on the forum for these recs and most of the hits I got were old, so I'm wondering where the state of things are these days. Also, just wanted to confirm that the size is P225 70R15. Thanks for any help you can give.

The original size F70X15 would translate to 215 70 15, but 225 works and fills the wheel well nicely. Will cause small speedo error.

OK thanks guys. A thread I read talked about problems with the sidewall of some of the DB tires and poor customer service from them but that was an old post so maybe they solved that problem. I'll go ahead and order a set. What kind of tire should I put on the spare?

Actually the speedo gears with most axle ratios are set up for 760 rev per mile tires, 6.70-15 and 225/70R-15; 7.75-15 and 215/70R-15 are 775 revs per mile, which add to speedometer error on the high side.

I recall that Diamondback has their own "brand" of Asian manufactured tires, but the tire shown in this thread is likely some other brand. They buff most of the data off the sidewall and then apply the redline.

My question is does anyone know the manufacturer and model of this 225/70R-15, and what is the speed rating and UTQG data.

According to their website this tire has a T speed rating and a 440AB UTQC. They don't indicate the tire manufacturer. I also purchased a set for my '69 and couldn't be more pleased. I did not want the tire info wiped clean and they said that they couldn't do that with any tire they used because of the placement of the redline so they searched and found a Firestone that would work. I ordered that one and it looks great. The Firestone logo and all data is on the tite.

After owning my '71 for 51 years I finally made the change to a radial this spring. The improvement in driving experience is remarkable. I decided on the Diamondback Touring in 215-70-15. It is done on the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S. DOT quality grades 700 AA, with a 98H speed rating. They look perfectly proportional in the wheel well by the way. Diamondback says the parent company of Uniroyal is Michelin.

Not a good experience with Coker. It took 9 oz to 6 oz to balance tires. The tires still show some vibration. These were the Wide Ovals for a 1972

Thanks for all the input guys. I ordered the DBs. I still need a tire for the spare, and that one will need to be judged. Any recommendations?

I recently bought Diamondbacks for my 65, which had previously had Sears branded/Michelin manufactured 'Tredloc' kevlar-belted radials. The Diamondbacks are Uniroyal-based, because Michelin stopped making the 'Defender' series in the appropriate 15 inch size, according to staff at Diamondback. I have a 69 Firebird with 14 inch Diamondback Michelin Defender-based redlines and they're terrific, but so too are the recently purchased ones on the 65 Corvette. I have bought three sets of tires from them over the years, one directly from South Carolina and the other two through our local Canadian supplier and the service has always been helpful and courteous.
