C2 1966 L72 (NO AC) no radio or heater fan with new fuse box

Hello All. Just replaced the dash harness in my 1966 no ac L72 roadster. New harness is Lectric limited. Everything worked fine before I started the project, just decided to replace the dash wiring harness as I was getting the instrument cluster and glove box restored and since I already did all the other wiring harnesses, I thought I would the do the harness remaining.

Just got the restored cluster in and re-attached everything. (Except steering column and glove box.) Before I installed the steering column thought I would test what electrical I could. I realize a few things are powered through the steering column but was not checking those items. Car started up fine, windshield wipers work, gauges all work, headlight motors roll as supposed to, headlights hi and low work with the proper indicators on the cluster working when they are supposed to. Problem is my radio and heater fan does not work. On my fuse box I have no power on any side of the radio and heater fuses.

Everything looks solid from the engine compartment. Ignition and headlamp harnesses seem like they are attached fine to the fuse box at the firewall.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank You. Mark

Mark maybe check the firewall harness and make sure you did not push one of the connector spades out of the connector??

Mark, That's the ACC feed circuit, Brown wire directly from the Ign switch. This wire feeds the fuse panel radio & heater.

Check for 12v at the Brown at Ign switch, in RUN or ACC key position. May be loose or not connected.

      Edit...PS...This may help too.
If not the IGN switch plug, maybe the Brown wire terminal got unhooked on the back.

Check the ground wire at the starter that has an eyelet that goes with the battery ground on the starter mount bolt.

Rich. Great photo, I did not know the fuse panel came apart like that. I will start from the ignition switch and start working my way back. The old wire harness ignition plastic connector was removed, and each terminal was on the ignition switch. I just put the old ignition switch (don't think it was an original switch) on the new wire harness and now thinking that maybe there was a reason it was wired like that. Have a bunch of things going on this weekend but early next week I will start working on it. Thanks again and I appreciate this great photo and your experienced comment. Mark

Years ago I had the same issue with a c2, no radio and heater fan, and it was just a ground wire. Good luck and enjoy. Mark

Rich. You were spot on. No connectivity between the starter switch brown wire terminal and the heater fan fuse. Took 12 volts to the fuse on the heater, fan worked along with the radio. Pulled the fuse box off the firewall and sure enough the brown wire terminal was not connected to the fuse terminal. Wire appeared way to short. Called tech assist at lectric limited before I pulled on the wire because if it broke, I did not want to be responsible. Tech assist said that was a very uncommon situation (lucky me.) and if I sent the harness back, they would fix it. Not wanting to do all that work I asked if I pulled really hard and I broke something would they hold me responsible. Tech said no,.....so I did. I was lucking and got enough brown wire to comfortably attach the terminal back where it belongs. Reinstalled the ignition switch and fuse box and everything works fine now. Thank You for your help and expertise, you saved me a lot of heartache.

Not to thread drift too much but noticed my headlight switch gets really hot. Left the parking light on for a while and thought I smelt something burning, reached under the cluster and could barely touch my headlight switch due to heat. It is a new headlight switch from lectric limited but thinking of putting the old one back on. Any ideas?

Thanks again for your help. Cheers. Mark

                    Hi Mark,

I would say that if the switch is getting so hot you can barely touch it, I would recommend removing it immediately. I remember seeing thread(s) on here about reproduction headlight switches not being able to handle the current. I don’t recall for which years.

                    Good luck!
                    Joe

Hey Joe. I removed it a while ago and installed the original headlight switch. Works fine now. Thanks Mark
