    Hi Bob,

    Sounds like the points are oxidized or corroded over. Common problem if they have set for a while. Measure the points to ground with your ohmmeter. Make sure the points are closed and should be near 0 ohms, going to infinite when they open. Try a piece of sandpaper, or maybe some solvent. Doesn't sound very difficult.

      The car ran on just point set #2?

      If so then I'd suspect something is amiss with the meter or the meter connections.

        Never use sandpaper on an electrical contact. The grit it leaves behind is non-conductive. Use a file. A common fingernail file works fine.

          Duke, I have never had any problems using sandpaper. You should be able to air blow it off, or wash it away with solvent. Solvent would also wash off any oil based contamination that may be on the points, this being a real possibility. But I understand what you are saying, and a file would be a better choice.
