1994 BOSE CD won't accept CD FIX? & console sticky

I just bought a 94 Corvette convertible 7,000 mile the Bose radio works fine but the CD system will take a CD in about 90% of the way and it stops there, will not go all the way in - is this common and is there a easy fix?

A 7,000 mile near 30 year old car has its plusses and minuses lack of use doesnt help these.
The console black plastic portion is stickey any fix for that. ? Thanks

    Bob,

Common problem. Dr. Don's https://www.doctordons.com/ best C4 radio repair shop.

Not clue about the plastic being sticky.

CD problems with the "dual play" Delco/Bose Gold system are common. No easy fix. It's got to come out and be repaired. Doctor Don's is great. Fortunately, removal of the radio head unit is not too difficult.

He also does a great job with the Bose speaker amplifiers. If you have not had trouble with those yet, you will---virtually guaranteed.

Gee That gives me something to look forward to. Are you familiar with the '94s enough to know for sure what came in the glove box?
This 94 seems to be very complete- Christmas present to a lady 12/23/13 , barely used one owner ,, many original papers in owners manual. My 95 SZR1 had just about everything as per the JG, but this 94 is very different. Are we sure the JG is correct for a 94? Is there somebody in the club with a 94 we are positive is correct ? THANKS Bob SoCal

The 94-96 JG is good, but it does has it's flaws. It is in much need of an update. I do believe that an update is in the works, so be careful what steps you take. If you have ANY question, feel free to PM me.

                Bob-------

I'm not familiar, at all, with the 1994 glove box contents. Glove box contents can vary, sometimes greatly, from year-to-year so one cannot really "extrapolate" from other years.

As far as the speaker amplifiers go, their deterioration is FAR MORE related to age than usage. In fact, I'm not sure it's related to usage, at all. My original owner 1992 has seen minimal usage since 1994 but the speaker amplifiers (and CD drive) still went south quite some time ago.

The "sticky" you refer to is the factory coating breaking down. The name of the product sprayed on it is called Dulso and it was to give the appearance of something more "luxurious" than just plastic. If you search Dulso, you will find a lot of threads on google where this coating was applied to other car makes, specifically Ferrari. I looked into having mine sent in and redone by the guy that does them, I think he quoted $400ish just for the shift plate. Then you need the radio bezel and the door lock bezels done too....

My bottom line was I removed the shift plate and stripped it completely of all the Dulso coating using acetone and lacquer thinner. Not easy and takes a long time to get into all the nooks and crannies. Then wet sanded, plastic primed, wet sanded, primed, wet sanded, SEM trim black paint and reinstalled. I never bothered to look up what the points deduction would be for "F" out of CDCIF, Im driving my 94 not feeling like Im touching spilled pepsi on my console and thats ok with me.

                    Agreed.
I would send them all in to Don to have them all repaired. I did that with the 92 last winter.

There are several threads on Corvette Forum about Dulso.

This all doesnt say much good about the quality of a BOSE system- wonder if Bose is paying attention ?
