    The rest of the story.....

    Below are pictures of the "shift tube lock plate & screws". It was the missing part I needed. I was fortunate to be provided a contact through this forum of a guy who had the part and he sent it to me. Perfect fit. My next stop would have been to hit junk yards for a donor, but I wasn't too hopeful. I feel like I won the lottery. This forum and you folks are the best!!!!

    Now the reverse will lock in gear with the key removed. I can't imagine any other reason that this part wasn't part of the column other than it was removed to disable the reverse lock out completely.

    With everything back together, the only potential problem I have is the tension on the column mechanism is a bit firm and puts stress on the cable when engaging reverse. I haven't found any other way to relieve the tension and am open to any suggestions. I have greased all appropriate rub points.

    Otherwise I will treat it a bit gingerly when going in reverse!
