    I did exactly that with my '70 LS5. Easily reversible mod.

          How do you determine what secondary spring to use - as in spring rate and length?

            If you're truly concerned about spring failure, why not buy another stock spring and throw it in your glovebox...it will give you the peace of mind you're looking for but will most likely never be used.

              Chris, I just re-read your post and I was wondering, did your throttle stick or was it spring failure?

                I believe a weak spring. Regardless, never want to experience that again. Look at any nice hot rod and they all run dual springs.

                    The extra spring in the glove box won't close the throttle when the primary spring fails.

                      For Quadrajets, use the dual spring set up used 1974 and newer.
