C-3 rear view day/night mirror resto

Quite a whle ago I bought an incorrect (late '72 vs. the early stainless) rear view mirror. Recently I decided to replace the incorrect mirror with my original but came upon 2 probelms.

#1- the rubber piece holding the mirror was about 70% separated from the housing. Any idea what the most appropriate glue to re-attach it is?

#2- When I took the original mirror out of the rubber "holder" I noticed that the glass was tapered. After that I searched the usual corvette suppliers for a replaceemnt mirror I saw that the ones I looked at called it a Day/night mirror thre was a pretty good descrepency in price. Form 21 to 47 bucks. Seems odd.

I did search the archives but didn't find help. Anyone know if there is a vendor that does sells a tapered mirror like the originals? OR of the less expensive vendors simply sell a correctly sized mirror in plain flat, untapered glass that could be gotten anywhere? Maybe GM still sells the original one since so many were produced? Thanks!!

My experience is that paragon glass is expensive and correct. Mid-America is less expensive and poorly sized (way too big).

I had my 72 mirror restored by Joyce Borell (the mirror lady) out of PA. She did a great job. I apologize that I don’t have her contact info but you should be able to Google her.

Joyce sold her business to Custom Mirror Restoration in Annville, PA in 2021.

Joyce did my '72 mirror in early 2021 but then I tried my '67 on my own. Agreed on the Mid-America misfit. I had to grind the edges with my stained glass diamond grinder to bring it to the proper profile for my '67. If you have a glass grinder, then it's just a 20 minute tweak; if not, go with the Paragon glass.

Thanks for the feedback. I figured that there had to be a reason for the price difference.

Any thoughts on an adhesive for the bond between the rubber and the stainless? Thanks!

My '67 didn't have anything, just the rubber outer ring securing it to the housing. I don't know about later years since Joyce did my '72's.

                  Tom,
I have experienced half a dozen 67-72 mirrors. I haven't found any adhesive on any of them. The rubber has been tight enough to hold the glass to the rest of the mirror head without adhesive.

Don't think I communicated my inquiry quite well enough. My wife keeps telling me that : )

Anyway, I'm not referring to the rubber gasket to glass bond, it's the rubber gasket to the stainless housing bond. The rubber was just kind of flopping off of the stainless with the mirror in place. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Are you sure the glass isn't too large and stretching the rubber ring so as to make it a sloppy fit on the housing? My '67 ring was quite snug. Without the glass is the rubber any more snug?

Good Morning, I decided to take a pic of what I have and share it since I don't think that I'm communicating my problem too well. From left to right I have shown the mirror, rubber that holds the mirror and the stainless housing. What I'm asking is does anyone know what type of adhesive would be best to attach the rubber to the stainless housing? Hope this helps, thanks!
