    How "mid" in Michigan?

I know we have them in Holland; I assume Grand Rapids and Lansing will as well.

See if you have an auto restoration shop in your area they could probably do it or recommend a shop to you. The last actual service station in my area still charges R 12 .

Ask a local shop if they can help you if you supply the R12. Then buy it on eBay.

            Tim,
You may want to have them put in a can with tracing dye during the process.
If there's still a leak somewhere, that will pin down the leak location.
Then you can have repairs done when the system needs recharged the next time.

You can also buy old cans of DuPont R12 Stop-Leak that work great to seal a system.

I'm leary of putting dye inside an AC system. There are modern leak detection methods, like refrigerate sniffers, which are less invasive.

And I've never used AC stop leak products so don't know much about them. But if they can stop a leak, can they also gum up an expansion valve or POA? It may be better to just fix the leak.

Thank you Mark, I don't like the red or florescent dye at all. Been in the commercial end of the buisness for 35 years and on ONE occasion, back in the 90's, I used the dye reluctantly but successfully. The downside is that you can NEVER get the dye out even if you find a leak. Simply put, every time you put a guage on a service port along with a spirt of refrigerant both oil (a small amount which is normal) that nasty dye will spray on something. Use good tools, not snake oil : )
