63 Interior Door Lock Spring Clip Installation

I'm trying to get this clip back on the interior door lock for installation. Does anyone have a trick/method to get this clip on. It appears that it only goes on one way for easy removal for the "next time". I've attached a picture to show the orientation I'm trying to use. If I go the other way, the removal tool doesn't work.

    Any advice/method????

    Thanks

Place the clip into the lock knob. The head of the lock post is tapered so that the knob can be pressed on and the clip will seat. But note, these knobs can be very hard to get seated. Some folks give it a whack with a rubber mallet or some such soft tool.DSC04341.jpgDSC06060.jpgA simple method for removing mid-year door lock-knob clips.jpg

      Dave,

My issue is getting the omega clip onto the lock knob itself. It just won't set in where it's supposed to.

      Thanks

Is it possible you have the smaller omega clip that some have encountered? Here is some info from a fellow on another forum.

          Gerald,
Are you sure you have the correct size Omega clip. The one in your picture appears to be too small.

            Leif,

I bought these from LICC a while back. I'll try to look for others.

            Thanks

I just went through a door glass tracks, window wipes and window adjustment process on my 63 convertible. Both the the vent and main window cranks were relatively easy to remove but the door lock knob was another story entIrely. More time spent getting that off that every other operation, and I had to do it more than once. That string idea is terrific and I wish had thought of it. Thank you for the next time.

The removal was relatively simple. But I am working on getting the clip back on as the original clip was never on the door lock.

                Thanks

I have the tool to remove the handles and the door lock. I guess the solution to my issue is to look for larger Omega Clips somewhere. Off to the hardware store and see if they have the correct size. It looks like the clips for the handles are bigger for the door lock.

I bought these, and they work better than most of the repro ones I have seen, and as good as originals:

                        Patrick,

Are these clips in this package all the same size or are they assorted sizes? The description on Amazon really doesn't say.

                        Thanks,

                          All the same size.
More than I needed for the projects that come through, but for the price and quality I couldn't pass them up.

                            Jerry,
I have noticed some of the aftermarket clips do not have enough tension on the them to engage and catch. I have had some luck with bending the clip to make it a little tighter fit or trying another clip. The originals usually go on without any issues.

                              Bob,

For some reason, the ones I bought from LICC are too small to fit over the lock. I'm going to NAPA to see if they have any. I'm also going to look in my parts boxes to see if I can find any originals. The locks on my new purchase didn't have any on them.

                              Thanks,

                              Jerry
