Thin Brake Drum Shoe Guide Plate on Manual Brakes?

I am redoing my 1962 Corvette brakes and only have the thin brake drum shoe guide plate that goes over the anchor pin. Using this plate will have a little more room for movement.


I wonder if this is OK, or should I try to source a thick plate like the originals?

I'd find a thick one. they are common to 49-54 chevy pass cars. mike mccagh

Thanks Mike! Any idea who might have them? Looking at the vendors, they all show a part that goes through 1964 so I suspect it is the thin one. MikeN

Hi Mike, Thanks for the lead but The Filling Station did not have them and it seems all of the vendors are selling the later/thinner guide plate.

if unable to find the thick varity, just get a bunch of the new style and spot weld them together to achieve the desired thickness. mike

Thanks for all of your help Mike. I live near Vette Products and Neil had the correct guide plates (used). For future reference, the thick C1 brake guide plates are ~0.18". Mike
