      Re: 1974 Rear bumper discoloration

Doug I am a original owner of a 1974, Nov. 73 build, what you see is the final stages of the break down of your polyurethane bumpers. Soon cracking will appear depending on temperature (I'm in the North East) so my bumpers started to fall apart about one - two years after the discoloration. I chose to go with a two piece soft fiberglass replacement, I heard there is a poly replacement I did not go in that direction. I would not invest any $ into your bumpers as they will be a pile of pieces in the near future.

I'm in the Cadillac-LaSalle Club, and they have the same issue with '70s urethane bumper extensions that are between the body and steel bumper. They crack, crumble, fall off.

Big fan of 74's. How hard would it be to match the color of the original paint with the replacement bumper ? I think I'd leave it alone untill it got a lot worse.

              Same here.
I wouldn't touch that - in many ways.

A friend of mine owned his silver '74 since new and the bumpers literally fell apart about 4 years ago. The car was low mileage-in the 40,000 range. He replaced them with the soft fiberglass and sold the car at a Mecum auction.

But don't feel too bad, my 2010 Bentley got "touched" on the rear bumper, I mean barely touched and out comes a piece-

Does it appear as though something leeched from the foam?
