I got my car started after a long time, and it sounded great. However, if I turned off the car, then came back later, the car wouldn't start without some starting fluid. Once started, it would run great at the higher cold idle until I kicked-off the cold-idle, where it would begin to stumble, then the engine would stall.
I've confirmed that I have a powerful spark, so I feel that I have a problem with the fuel, or fuel delivery system.
To begin the troubleshooting of this problem, I'd like to remove the fuel line at the carburetor, and crank the engine to see how much fuel flows into a container. The problem is that I've never done this before, and don't know how much fuel should flow from the fuel line and at what speed. The AMA spec sheet for the fuel pump states that the pump should show 7.5 -9.0psi at the carb, but they show no "flow rate" volume which could help determine what it should look like. I have no gauge to measure the psi.
So, what I need to know is, visually, what should the fuel look like as it exits the fuel line. Should the width of the fuel stream be the width of a pencil, a string, or a hair, or? Should the fuel look like it's coming out of a spigot full-on, should it be a slower, steady flow, or?.
Thanks for any help.
