Re: Clutch Fan Question
Paul,
The fan clutch has 5 points for originality and 4 points for condition. If you were to lose all 5 originality points, you will also lose all 4 condition points. Other that having no fan clutch at all, the only other usual way to lose all 5 originality points is by using a fan clutch that is “substantially dissimilar” from an original fan clutch. That qualifies for a full deduction under Section 4, Item 13 of the Judging Reference Manual. But repro fan clutches typically are not substantially dissimilar, so you are not likely to lose all points, based on the CDCIF rubric. Get a reasonably close repro or GM service replacement fan clutch and you’ll likely lose 1 or 2 points, say for configuration and/or completeness. At a minimum, you should get credit for the installation being correct. So, I think the worst you would do with a any repro is a 4-point deduction. But I bet it will be less.
