Paul when you say vents, do you mean the 3 side fender openings rearward of the front wheels?

If so, yes, each side underneath there should be a triangular shaped flat shield, Inner.
There are also Outer shields with a rubber weatherstrip stapled to them.

They're shown inconspicuously in the AIM, buried in there somewhere. I'll find it in a while.

Edit.... found it.... (note lots of whitespace in images below)

Inner - Attaches to frame and under floors to brackets. The left side bracket also holds the accelerator pedal to the floor.

Thanks for that good investigation work. Yes, as you stated behind the 3 side exterior openings/slats. The shields are both present on my car. Regards, Paul.
