Cost To Have A C2 (66) Tire Carrier Restored To Original Condition?

Want to get my 66 Corvette Tire Carrier Restored To Original Condition. I Have taken the two pieces off
the car. I have several people in the Local Area that can do this. (Would never send this out
to get the work done as shipping the two items(Bare Carrier and Cover) would be very risky.)I would
tackle this myself but have no idea how this is done. Some one has painted them when the fiberglass
should be bare. Do not have no idea how much time is involved and types of chemicals to use to get
them looking original. BIG QUESTION>What would be a fair price to get this done? No time limit to get
done but just before early Spring when car will be judged. Thoughts?? Thanks in Advance>Larry
P.S. The steel reinforcement is still riveted to the cover.

    Larry,
This would be a good DIY project for you. I would use Citrus Strip to remove the paint on the fiberglass and steel reinforcement. Wash and clean thoroughly, mask off the fiberglass and re-shoot the steel reinforcement with a low sheen black paint (masking off the rivets, as well) and you're done.

      Following up with Leif's comments...

You didn't mention any fiberglass damage, but when I repaired my carrier, I dusted the repair with antique finish spray paint (it comes in different shades). Not perfect, but you need to look for it.

After stripping the paint from the rest of the carrier, use scotchbrite to smooth the surface, then apply a light coat of matte clear.

        Thanks Leif and Mark.
Mark>No damage at all; just old/painted.

Leif>How is Citrus Strip applied? Paint Brush Or ? How many times is this
done to get all the paint off? Does it just wash off with water?

Maybe will give it a try. Larry
