    Help 1967 427/390 No Spark

In the final prep for the Frisco Regional Meet and have a 1967 427 / 390 that won’t fire. In going through the operations check. The car ran fine but noticed a slight oil leak from the filter canister. After addressing the leak, the car will not start.

The car turns over perfectly and there is fuel. Checked the spark and there is none. Pulled the coil lead off of the distributor cap and turned the car over and there is no spark when holding the distributor end of the lead near the ignition shielding. Verified that there is power to the + side of the coil. There is also power on both sides of the ballast resistor.

Tried a new coil and the results above were the same. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated to get this car going…..

Pull the cap and see what you have. If points, you should have 30 degrees of dwell while cranking. If not, check the primary wiring (including the ground wire) and replace the points and condenser to troubleshoot.

If you have an aftermarket ignition, it's not hard to remove it and replace with points to troubleshoot.

It's odd this happened after fixing an oil leak... was anything disturbed during this repair?
Thanks for the reply. I will pull it all apart tonight and see what is under the cap.

I did put the 12V test light on the - side of the coil while it was turning over and there was no pulsing light as I would anticipate. So there must be something wrong with the Points/Condenser.

As for the odd occurrence, we have been working hard on the car to correct many deductions it received last year. So while it started and idled when we discovered the oil leak, we have been cleaning and correcting other issues for the past few months so something very well could have been bumped or tugged on.
