Re: Help with 1964 Stingray heater box refurbishment.
John - that piece of restoration is ahead of me. Glad you posted the question and the sanding and WD-40 will help. So, do I gather that these pieces can be replaced without separating the heater box? And, where did you purchase the re-build pieces from? I have been purchasing all of my restoration parts from Paragon. They have a great catalog with pictures, and their sales staff are really helpful with questions. Thanks, Ron- Top

Re: Help with 1964 Stingray heater box refurbishment.
Ron, I know your question was posed to John, who started this thread, but just wanted to mention I also get a lot of parts from Paragon, including the heater box rebuild kit. I didn't spot this thread when it first came out but am curious how John, or anyone who's fully disassembled a midyear heater box or just driven out those shafts ever got the flappers out without bending or busting up the various parts. Thanks.Mike T. - Prescott AZ.- Top

Re: Help with 1964 Stingray heater box refurbishment.
See about three earlier replies. He ground out the rivets and split the box - then used pop rivets when at reassembly. That is what I will do since I am not doing a points restoration - just want to get it on the road to drive.- Top

Re: Help with 1964 Stingray heater box refurbishment.
John - could you do me a favor and measure location of you side emblems on the 64 convertible? I am interested in the distance of 1) fender side of door jam to edge of nearest tip of the V (right is suppose to be different than left), 2) same tip to finder line at the top, 3) bottom of V to bottom style line. It would be most appreciated.- Top

Re: Help with 1964 Stingray heater box refurbishment.
I also have the Aero Rivet Tool II (advertised in Driveline), which I purchased specifically for installing the vent window channels on my convertible. I was able to install the vast majority of the rivets with that tool, but a couple rivets were just impossible to set deep in the recesses of the box, so I used pop rivets. A quality pop rivet gun makes a big difference. (They do make them.)
