A few questions? Have you done or have had any work done on: 1. The turn signal mechanism or anything related to the steering column? 2. The rear wiring harness, and in particular that part of the harness that runs between the left and right taillights? If yes to one of them - it is likely the problem is in the area where you recently had work done. If no, probably a ground or a build up of corrosion on a contact somewhere. Have you pulled the bulb, checked it, checked the socket for good connectivity, cleaned any corrosion out from the inside of the socket?

The turn signal and brake light share the same wiring thru the car from signal switch to bulb. You indicated all is good except the right brake light.. I'd bet your problem is in the turnsignal switch.

You are in for a fun project. Are you familiar with the term "mission creep"? You will be. Installation of the turn signal switch - the half with the wiring harness requires removal of the steering column from the car. While you have it out.... great time to "restore" the column, new bushings, bearing, fresh paint. When it is out you now can easily remove the instrument cluster - might as well take it out and restore it too. How about the pedal bracket & pedals - sure, they come out real easy with the column out. Don't forget the E-brake handle mechanism and the hood release mechanism - now you have great access to the firewall insulation and the black cardboard insulation cover. Ask me how I know.........Enjoy!

thanks for all the input, the switch is replaceable without pulling the steering column out of the car,
first by removing the plug connector, making sure you mark the pin holes when putting it back together.
short of making a major into a minor job.... thanks again for the input.
