Who sells rubber grommets for 1" and 1.5" holes?

My '56 has two holes requiring rubber grommets of sizes that I can't find. One is in the firewall and the other is next to the radiator.

According to the Corvette parts vendors, all such holes should be 7/8" or 1-3/8" diameter. However, these holes are definitely not; one is 1" and the other is 1.5".

Has anyone actually bought these grommet sizes from some retail source?

I have a selection of rubber grommets. What material thickness and ID do you need?

I have a couple of different sizes, don't know if any will pass judging, or if that is a concern for you, but I have both 1" and 1-1/2" rubber grommets.

You are welcome to them if you can use them.

Thanks for the link, Jim. I wasn't aware of generic grommets. There may be something available there that I can use to plug the holes.

          Dan, here's a photo of stock '56 - '62 rubber grommets for 7/8" and 1-3/8" holes:

          MVC-003S.JPG

The opening in the middle is about 1/4" in diameter, but the rubber is very flexible.

I'm not into judging. However, I hope to find something that looks stock.

Thanks very much for your offer. It's very generous of you.

            Hi Jerry,

            I looked through my collection of grommets left over from when I did my 57 about ten years ago;

For the large 1-1/2" hole, for the headlight wires, I think I probably have the same thing you are seeing. The grommet is loose in the hole, but it is secure, so our suppliers have probably been supplying these like this for some time now. That 1-1/2" grommet will work, and no one will know the difference. I do not have any of these. The one non-Corvette 1-1/2" grommet I have has a large 1" inside diameter hole. You do not want this one.

For the 7/8 size, I have a 1/2 dozen of them, they look just like your photo shows. Except they all have a 1/8" ID hole, that you could easily make larger if you wanted to. It is not split, the larger one is split. You could easily glue it in place if it is too loose in the hole.

p.s. McMaster-Carr is a very good company. They have almost everything in stock, and they have 10s of 1000s of parts. I ordered some stuff from them on a Friday at about 3:30 PM, and had them in my hands Saturday morning at 10:30.

              Thanks for your time, Dan.

I'll stop looking for proper replacements now and make the smaller reproduction grommets work somehow.

                Okay Jerry,

I assume you already have the aftermarket grommets.

These sound and look like the same ones I have. Even though they are undersized, they work fine and look okay to me.

                Good luck with your project.

These old cars are a lot of work and money. I don't want to even think about how much money I have spent on my 57. But I love the car.
