    Back in 2007, Jack Humphrey posted this tidbit:
    batterytray mounted on the LH frame rail to move the weight of the battery to the opposite side of the car and offset the weight addition of the AC compressor

      Hy guess is that clearance to install / remove on the passenger side with AC also was a consideration (no idea on a 396 car). Don H.

        Plus the evaporator core box is not light either and it takes up a lot of room.
