Re: 1969 Rear Body mount inspection plate question.
Not sure what the finish should be on the fasterners for a 69 but I am betting the material they used to seal the plates was a product like what is available now produced by 3M. It is a strip calk, comes in different colors, black, grey that I know of. Not terribly expensive - a box will last forever - if you are doing a complete restoration might as well buy a box for $30 - you need it for some applications behind the door panels - and a few other places too.

Re: 1969 Rear Body mount inspection plate question.
If you have the AIM for a 69 get the part # for the screws and enter just the part # in the search field of this forum. There is a high probability that someone sometime asked the same question - if that screw (and part #) is mentioned in any previous thread it will come up in a list of threads - usually someone asks about the finish on a fastener. You can also do a search for the part number and finish, like "99999 finish". My guess is that it was zinc - but verify that. This search technique is great - use it for just about anything.Ed- Top

Re: 1969 Rear Body mount inspection plate question.
Joseph,
The screws are plated clear zinc (silver) and the black caulking that Ed referred to is the sealant used to keep out water/moisture. The plate itself was dip painted with black paint."SOLID LIFTERS MATTER"- Top
