70 Convertible Rear Quarter Panel Bracket

The brackets that stick thru the carpet above the rear storage tray to support the rear quarter panels, are they painted body color, black or some other color?

    Thanks,
    Allen

Wow, 49 views and no one knows the answer. Bubba changed so many things on my car that I can't trust anything.

Here is a picture of my bracket in the center of the picture.

Re: 70 Convertible Rear Quarter Panel Bracket

Allen, I had seen you post earlier but didn't jump in because I have not owned my car since new, therefore, cannot attest to originality. That said, my brackets are black. Interestingly, when I bought my car, the brackets were missing. I found a set of good used ones at Paragon Reproduction and used them. Those brackets were black when I removed them from the donor body.

Not easy for judges to see, therefore, I can't say whether or not my brackets were examined, however, my car has Top Flighted 4 times (chapter twice, Regional and National) without deduction or note.

      Hope this helps.

I suspect that they were black dip-painted, as many other parts, then attached to the body.

I have a 70 that I purchased in 1987. It has this bracket, and it's to attach the panel that goes beside the seat and down the door jamb that covers up the convertible top attaching bolts, if optioned, and the shoulder seat belts, if optioned.

I just received a text from the owner of a 11,000 mile 70 big block convertible, and his bracket is natural metal as shown in this picture:

Were some painted black and some left natural? What is the finish of you other 70 owners' bracket?

              Thanks,
              Allen

I've looked at several low mileage original unrestored cars over the last few days.
Black carpet, blue carpet, tan carpet, the bracket is natural, un-finished, and rusted over time.
My 71, with new carpet, is painted fresh black. I'd leave it natural, unfinished.

I recently sold a 1971 convertible with 25,000 original miles. Mostly original paint and everything else. However, the interior was 100% original and the brackets were painted black.
