    Resistor Vs Non-REsistor Plugs

    I am sure there are past threads on this simple topic so sorry to re-hash it.

    I am runing a stock 202 coil in my 65 327 car. My current plugs are R45s. They are probably 20+ years old so I am looking at replacing them with either R45 or NOS 45 plugs (and given we don't drive these cars much, I figure a fresh of plugs should last my lifetime).

    While the original older non-restor plugs generate EMI (which can be anoying for the AM radio band), any positive benifit in using NOS non-resistor plugs vs sticking to newer R45s? One artilce I read suggested that:

    1) Non-resistor plugs deliver a greater spark (V/R = I -> the lower R delivers higher current I). Agree/disagree?

    2) Newer resistor plugs put a greater strain on the old coils. Agree/disagree? (I would have thought the higher current draw from the old plugs would strain the old coils)

    Thanks for any thoughts...

    Re: Resistor Vs Non-REsistor Plugs

    Corvettes did not receive resistor plugs until 1969. Your car's OE plugs were non-resistor type. The resistor dissipates some spark energy, and the single point system doesn't have a lot of reserve energy, so I recommend non-resistor plugs, especially if you are not in the judging process. I can't say what, if any, effect resistor plugs have on the coil

    AC no longer offers non-resistor plugs, but the non-resistor NGK B4 and Denso W14-U are equivalent to the out-of production non-resistor AC 45.

      Duke, thanks for taking time to respond. Your recommendation is good for me.
