    69 427 Alternator Belt

    Hi Guys,

I bought a Quanta alternator belt for my 69 L71 non PS and it wont fit over the alternator pulley. Full 1/2" short. The belt does not recess nicely in the pulley like I am use to seeing. Just curious if others have had this same problem with Quanta belts. I will call Quanta today and get the proper specs for the belt. I have had good luck with Quanta in the past. First mishap.

Let me know if others have had this issue.

    Thanks

    Lawrence

    Lawrence,

I also had a fit problem on a 1967 L71 non-PS alternator, but it turned out I had the wrong alternator pulley. HERE

What is your Quanta belt part#? 3882814 ?

            Chris, is your car unrestored?

Very nice. I may ping you with a PM as I work through my 27K mile L71. It too unrestored but has had some stuff tinkered with which I am unwinding.

Rich, I confirmed with Quanta that I have the correct belt. Will check my pulley next time I am back in Clt.

                  Thanks

Yes I see now at the Quanta site that the '69 L71 belt(3940991) differs from the '66/67 version(3882814). Strange. I wonder what changed to require a different belt?

Edit- So it's not the pulley that changed. The 3829387 is for 1966 to 1969. Maybe the alternator itself or the brackets?

                      Re: 69 427 Alternator Belt

Rich, The alternator is the one that I assume was installed when new? Dated to the car, correct TI alternator for an early 69 car. I checked my JM to confirm the bracket is correct, and it seems as if it is correct. I need to confirm the pulley has not been changed. Would be surprising since the alternator is the correct one, but who knows. Will update the thread when I am back with the car.
I may have to do what Chris did and just loosen the alternator bracket enough to get a little more movement in the alternator to connect the belt.
I have gone ahead and finished installing the A.I.R. including the belt so I can test the A.I.R system.
