    Heater Box Restore Questions

Ok...so down the rabbit hole I go...

Primary question pertains to the valve at the top center of the box.  Wanting to replace it while I am in here but challenges determining what it is and where to get one.; Seems to me it is a temp control valve but only place I have found it is on Doc Rebuild heater vac chart; Not in AIM, not on Zip, nor Paragon catalog/diagrams, nor Corv Central, nor Doc Rebuild. Any intel on this one? If I can't get it replaced can it be restored? Not sure it works or not but this is a "while I am in there" thing.

Second question pertains to same part...how the heck does it come out??? There is a cotter pin inside holding the end of the stem to the valve flap....beyond that simply appears press fit.  Really can't see a way to get to the cotter pin. The aluminum back plate of the box is partly screwed on partly riveted...so maybe need to drill out rivets and re-rivet?..no idea why the mix and match fastening.  Or maybe just remove screws and see if I can bend back the plate? Or hit that pin that goes through the box with some PB and bang it out?

Once I get all that sorted out and have valves/actuators off, plan is to give the box a nice EvapoRust bath to deal with all the rust....then get it all rebuilt, new seals, etc.

I mention the rabbit hole...cuz removed heater box initially to replace heater core being as I had the radiator out anyway. Core seems fine but good idea nonetheless given it's age. And box has no seals left at all. and blower motor works as far as I know but not correct and I have correct (part and date) one to go in. But that led to complete heater vacuum replacement...led to headlight and wiper door override switch replacement....led to...well you get the idea.

do not try to bang the pin out. They are usually spot welded to the flapper door.
