    63 Manual Transmission Tag

    I have a manual transmission part no. 3788421 with an a side cover number of 3831704. I see that Zip offers replacement transmission tags but the closest number on the tag is 3831703. It seems like the tag should match the transmission part number, any suggestions? Thanks!

      It depends on your VIN, T10 or Muncie. Can you provide some additional detail?

          VIN is 30837S104636 (Dec. 62 build date).

                          Something does not add up. 3831704 is the casting # on a Muncie case.

                              I went through several pictures of stampings on 63 Muncie transmissions. The stamping is essentially in the correct places on Tom's transmission. The anomaly I see is that the VIN is too early for a Muncie.

                                  I agree. Another Easter egg as I go through the NCRS certification process. It looks like the transmission original transmission was swapped with an updated Muncie from later in 63. Any thought on how this will be handled by the judges?

                                      The transmission is worth 15 originality points. Using CDCIF it's probably a hit on Configuration (20%) and date (20%), so a 40% deduction on the 15 points resulting in a 6 point deduction. Condition looks good from your pictures.
