Ok so I just got a couple of NCRS fender covers for Christmas and a little shocked to see this warning to remove every day. Is this how all fender covers are treated? I threw away the boxes already so I can't read any paperwork if there was any. Christmas presents ripped them open and threw out everything. Can someone explain? I have 1980s Lacquer paint on the car if that matters.

Vinnie, Thanks for sharing that pdf. I will follow precautions for sure. Is that a Sticky? Almost afraid to even use them now. 45 minutes is crazy. Maybe lay down some flannel first.- Top

Some of us have seen Tim's car since that occurred. His was parked next to mine at the NCRS Gallery right after this occurred.
The "fender gripper" ones are the ones that caused the damage.
I use them on original lacquer as well as BC/CC with no issues, but you can't leave them on "new" lacquer.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Fender cover rules?
My wife made some fender cloths from heavy flannel, available at most fabric stores. They are very soft and can be made to any size. No issues leaving them on the paint for extended times. They are also washable......... and cheap.- Top

Re: Fender cover rules?
I was extremely disappointed when mine arrive. They don’t stay put. Perhaps that is a way to make sure you don’t leave them on the fender accidentally?
Seriously, way too and stiff unlike virtually every other fender cover I’ve ever used. As far as potentially damaging the paint, I think that is a problem with just about any plastic based product.67 427/400 Lynndale Blue Corvette https://online.flippingbook.com/view/750924569- Top

Re: Fender cover rules?
Vinny,
Thank you for that post and PDF. I have heard of this problem, but the photos on that page are downright scary. While fabric is a good alternative, a accidental fluid spill would seep through very quickly and make its way to the paint. Fabric can be slippery making the loss of a toll more likely.
My plan is to buy some simple vinyl covers (any brand), cut a matching shape soft material (fabric) and then use velcro to hold the 2 layers together along the edges. That will allow the fabric to be easily washed.
The older style covers were usually made from an impenetrable surface material with a felt backing. Finding a source for that material might also solve the problem.67 427/400 Lynndale Blue Corvette https://online.flippingbook.com/view/750924569- Top

Re: Fender cover rules?
Years ago I used cotton cloth and in heat the fabric left an imprint-I left it on too long in summer. I was able to polish it out. I have a fender cover I use now and sometimes a thick fabric pad. No matter which I use I remove after 45-60 minutes because I can't bend over much longer than that! Oh, one is painted with nitrocelulose and two with acrylic.- Top
