    1963 Chevy Orange Engine Paint

Hi All. I have been researching engine paint in the archives and the opinions are as varied as are the choices of paint. I was planning on using Quanta's Chevy Orange paint for judging, but they have not had it in stock since spring 2022 and there is no ETA for a resupply. Bill Hirsch paint appears to be too glossy. Duplicolor DE1620 appeared to have good recommendations for the color match, but was I wondering how it judged. Does anyone have a recent experience having their engine color judged using Duplicolor DE1620 and how they made out or judged using another brand? Thanks for your help.

Seymour, the company that makes the private label Chevrolet Orange for Quanta, has the paint back in stock as of last week.

If you know of a painter, and your engine is transportable, I'd have it sprayed with "real" enamel. Most paint supply houses have a formulation, and it's FAR better paint than any aerosol.

I bought a can of Duplicolor, Seymour and VHT, and liked VHT the best. None of them really matched each other with regard to color or tint.
However, this was only for touch ups, not for a full engine.

VHT SP123 is the one I used.
Again, I keep all 3 brands around but this one was my favorite for color and coverage.

Which is interesting, as I found it to be very thin, and difficult to get a good coating. It was my least favorite; perhaps it was just the particular can I purchased.
I would still suggest buying one of each and using the one that YOU like best.

Don't know, I've never used their paint. It probably is.

Thanks for all of the responses. Looks like I will get one sample of each (seymour, VHT, dupli-color) and see what looks the best. Thanks again.

Sven, If you pre-coat the castings with a cast colored paint you will find that the Orange covers much quicker and easier.
