Another winter project here in cold NY. I just received my really nice, correct water pump from Chevy Cool. Replacing the thermostat housing with a correct one and while radiator is drained gonna do a flush as soon as temp warms a bit. I’m away from my Technical manual at present. What is the correct thermostat for a 427/390…180* or 195*?

If the car is K-19 equipped, the correct thermostat is 195 degrees. Otherwise, it's 180 degrees. However, I recommend a 180 even if it's original K-19.

Best thermostat to use is a Robert Shaw with a small bleed hole modified by Stewart https://www.stewartcomponents.com/in...tegory&path=61

            Paul,

The Koolflower by RobertShaw, # 330-180, has been recommended by others on the DB and works with a stock water pump.

              Paul,

The modified Robert Shaw thermostat from Stewart works good with stock water pump. Plus a Robert Shaw thermostat will never failed closed.

Reason I prefer the modified Robert Shaw over the stock is the small "bleed", which makes it easier to fill your Corvette with water without having to worry about about purging air or having an air pocket.
