    65SB plug wires

I just finished replacing the plug wire on my SB with Lectric Limited date coded wires. I am having trouble with several plug boots not snapping over the plug head. They seem loose. Do I need to crimp the wire inside the boot. Scary, consideing LL wires are fragile. Would coating the inside of the boot or plug head with dielectric grease help? I am using a set of plug pliers.

    Dave,

Duke Williams taught me that dielectric grease is an insulator, not an electrical conductor.

That's true Gary, but putting the grease on the inside of the boot or plug head as Dave is suggesting will prevent the boot from freezing to the plug from the heat, and also provides a little more resistance to arcing, and for preventing moisture entry.

I don't know if they still do, but GM used to coat the plug boots with silicone grease from the factory.

A GM bulletin advises customers to coat the C2 bulkhead connectors with silicon grease to prevent the contacts from corroding. I don't agree with this, but apparently it works.

I don't know what to say about them not snapping on, but I would suggest Dave should call Lectric Limited. Their customer service department is quite good.

I recommend a THIN film of silicon grease on spark plug rubber boots to keep them from seizing to the spark plug insulators (but NOT on the actual terminals) and WD-40 on low voltage connectors, like the connectors on the cowl in the engine compartment below the master cylinder. Spray it on, let the carrier evaporate and the very thin invisible moisture repelling film will be left behind, but it will not degrade connector continuity or attract dirt.
