There is a nos one on eBay part #648235 that he says measures 63" is there a part number or length I should look for, maybe aftermarket any help would be appreciated. First of all, the 67-7/16" spec I apparently previously stated is incorrect, at least it's incorrect for a 1969 with 4 speed transmission. It's actually just the inner cable, not the cable with casing, and it MIGHT the correct UPPER cable for a 1969 with 3 speed manual or THM-400. Those applications used a 2 piece speedometer cable.
The original PRODUCTION speedometer cable assembly for the 1969 with 4 speed was not available in SERVICE, at least not under the PRODUCTION part number. This was very common practice for AC Division parts of the day. The same parts often had different part numbers depending on how they were packaged or whether the contained instructions or certain labels. The original SERVICE part number for the 1969 with 4 speed speedometer cable with casing was GM #6477864 and, according to GM this was 72" in length.
The 6477864 was discontinued in November, 1970 and replaced by GM #6478178. GM says that this cable assembly was also 72" in length.
The GM #6478178 was discontinued in July, 1978 and replaced by GM #6480236. This cable assembly was 74-3/4" in length.
The GM #6480236 was discontinued in July, 1981 and replaced by GM #25032096. This cable assembly was 70.9" in length.
The GM #25032096 was discontinued in April, 1989 and replaced by GM #25033245. This cable assembly was also 70.9" in length
The GM #25033245 was discontinued and replaced by GM #88959478. This cable assembly is 78" in length and remains available from GM to this day.
There was no speedometer cable of GM #648235 but there was a cable of GM #6480235. This cable was an upper cable assembly applicable to applications with THM-400 which used upper and lower cables. It was 63" but is not correct for your 4 speed application. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
