And why would you not start with the current edition of the 70-72 technical manual?

Don't underestimate the usefulness of Google Images. I searched "1970 Corvette L46 engine" and a lot of high quality engine bays popped up. I used Google a lot working on my 1970.

Also, post photos to this board. This group loves the game of "what's not right". Plus, we'd like to see your car. 1970 is a favorite year for me, and if I ordered one new, I would choose either L46 or LS5 with AC (love the LT-1 but we need to stay cool here in Texas).

And as Tom said, definitely get the JG. It was updated not long ago and is well done.

Yes, the 1969-70 L-46 was a great street engine, one of the best street engines ever installed in a Corvette. By the way, a form of the L-46 carried on long after 1970. It was the L-82. Basically, the L-82 is an L-46 with lower compression. I've always wondered why GM did not offer it for 1971-72.

IN doing some research into the modifications to the 1978 Pace Cars, the four that were used on the track the day of the race, I came across a Hot Rod article that describes the engine changes. Essentially, engineers took the L82s back to the L-46 configuration...cam, dual exhaust to boost the horsepower up to meet track requirements. Dave McLellan, when I asked him about it at Palm Springs, said that no changes were made. But it makes for a great story.

Yes I agree . I think GM was pressured by the government regulators to apply with new standards of emissions. I had a L82 in my 76 years ago never had a problem great motor as well . Also the L48 even though the HP was very low is a good dependable motor
