Question on Correct Battery for 1996 Flight Judging

I'm scheduled for Flight Judging of my 1996 CE in early June. Where can I buy a new or completely refurbished correct Delco Freedom Battery Series 75 (side terminals; Catalogue #655; CCA=525). I've googled and also checked the Driveline and have not found anything. Thank you to any who respond for taking the time out.

Joe, I'm going through the same mental gyrations on my 2006. We'll start judging 2005 - 2007 after this years National. I was going to start looking for an original battery, but...

As I recall the Standard Deductions for Battery was just reduced from 50% to 25%. Meaning, If you get a battery that is close, manufacturer, etc. You will only take a 5 point hit. I'm note sure spending big $$$ for 5 points is worth it. I'll use those $$$ to fix other items worth more points.

Not sure I helped, just wanted to add another variable into the decision.

    Good Luck.

As far as a NEW example, forget it. These batteries start "dying" the day they are manufactured and, after 27 years I'm certain that every single one ever manufactured is long dead.

As far as refurbished, I suppose it's possible but I know of none. One problem: Most C4 Corvettes used a group 75B battery while other non-Corvette applications of the group 75 battery were 75A. The difference is the side of the battery that has the "Delco Eye". So, any "core" that could be found today for refurbishment would have to have originated in a Corvette. Virtually all SERVICE replacement group 75 batteries were group 75A since 75B were special order and, even then, not available for very long.

Re: Question on Correct Battery for 1996 Flight Judging

I owned a 44 original mile 1990 ZR-1 with a restored battery. I thought it was pretty cool...

I now have another 1990 ZR-1 with 62 original miles that retains its original battery case. I'm going to have it refurbished...

I just purchased an original battery case for my 89 ZR-1 and I'm going to have it refurbished, too.

My 90 came with its origie case. I purchased the case for the 89 from a fellow enthusiast.

ZR1 used a different group 75 battery than other C4s. The battery was a 75Z.

Re: Question on Correct Battery for 1996 Flight Judging

If the hit is only 5 points for a "close" Delco battery is now the rule- WELL DONE_ THANK YOU.
A couple questions- my 94 convertible LT-1 and 95 ZR-1 both show a different battery on the build sheet vs what the Judging guide says they should have. I am going with the build sheet- the ZR-1 has been judged National convention with no mention of incorrect battery number vs JG. is that proper.?

There are reproduction battery labels widely avaialble ( Ebay etc) I put a label matching my build sheet on a current DELCO -
1 judge called it a counterfeit and was pretty steamed- others did not care. No intent to deceive, just a step toward restoring to
as delivered condition- like rechrome or paint. What is correct ?
                    Thanks Bob

Not for the years being mentioned, but I judged a battery that really looked original. I asked about it and it was 3D printed!! So anything is possible in today's world.2021-10-23 11.37.30.jpg

Thanks for that photo showing the battery shut-off switch, now I see what I need to do to get the one I bought to work.

He works for a 3d printer company and he did it himself.
