        Bob,

The strike started on Sept 15, 1970 until Nov 23, 1970 and lasted for 67 days. It shut down over 145 plants and suppliers in the US & Canada as it impacted over 400,000 UAW workers. My 71 Chevelle SS 454 which was built on Dec 16, 1970 in Arlington, TX. It has many parts including the engine ( cast date August 9th and build date Sept 8th ), tranny, rearend, etc that were built in August and early Sept of 1970. Parts just sat as there was no production going on for 67 days.

The work stoppage you are referring to was not appropriate to 1970 Model Year Corvette production. It refers to 1971 Corvette Model Year production which began August 17, 1970 (A17).

1970 Corvette production Began January 5, 1970 (A06) and ran until July 31, 1970. (G31) I suspect production ran a day or two beyond July 31, but the trim tags we have found in the last 40+ years are stamped G31.

The work stoppage during the 1970 Model Year ran from April 7, 1970. (D07) to May 5, 1970 (E05)

BTW: That sounds like a nice Chevelle. I love those cars too. I have a 1967 Chevelle that is not quite stock.

            Terry,

You are correct that 67 day strike impacted 1971 cars not 1970.

              1970 #12931
              LS5 block casting H 25 9 (08-25-1969)
Head castings D 15 70 (04-15-1970 for both of them)
              Intake casting E 8 70 (05-08-1970)
              Engine assembly (stamp pad) 0608
              Trim tag F22 (06-22-1970)

So engine assembly was over nine months after block casting, but only two weeks before final assembly. Who knows if this is due to a strike, rework, or something else. All of the above is believed original to the car; see: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...k+casting+date
