Fastening (original) carpet to transmission tunnel (drivers side) 2006 corvette

I noticed that the top of the carpet above the accelerator pedal and back to the vertical faceplate of the center console is peeled back somewhat and I'm seeking advice on how to re-secure it. The automatic shifter was replaced twice in the past year, but I only noticed this carpet problem recently after taking the car from winter storage. Can anyone advise how it is supposed to be fastened at the top or what perhaps I can do to fasten it? It is pulled down from the top far enough that my foot rubs it when on the gas pedal.

    Thanks,

    Grant

Thanks Harry. I might try (quality) two-sided tape first, but your suggestion will probably work and last longer. Do you know how it was originally held?

I checked my '07 coupe and there is no glue or fastener at the top of the carpet. It just lays against the firewall insulation lower lip, which appears to be a soft plastic. If you're going to glue it, you may want to scuff up the plastic with some sandpaper to give it some teeth for the glue to adhere to. Some photos attached below.

So, I have to ask..... You had the shifter replaced TWICE? Why? Was the Auto shifter safety interlock broken twice? I added a emergency cable to mine many years ago after the interlock solenoid failed me a few times. What a horrible design. This leaves many C6 A6's stranded.

Thanks for the pictures and the info. It was replaced twice because the first replacement didn't work (in a positive way---the interlock was non-functional...). I had the work done at a GM dealer so they couldn't leave it that way...
