Not all C3 years use the same speaker connection/wiring configuration! What follows are images of a 1978 factory installed front speaker.

So cut the wires at the old speaker plug and solder them direct to the new speaker.

Worked a few months back, parked the car with battery disconnected went for a drive a few days ago and now only the right speaker works. RPO U69 consists of the radio, convector and two speakers.

From what I have researched the function of the convector is to serve as the final speaker drive amplifier and without it you get no audio output from the speaker. Can just the left side output of the convector fail or this a all or nothing type component?

Not looking forward to opening the dash up to troubleshoot this but at this point have no other options. Any tips on least intrusive way to troubleshoot and narrow it down to the failed component?

          Thanks

Last year I had one speaker on my '69 rebuilt locally here in the Detroit area. I had just gone dead and a temporary substitute proved that it was the speaker. I wanted to retain the original speaker frame with the part numbers stamped on,. I just cut the wires at the speaker, saving the factory pigtail, and soldered on common spade connectors that just plugged onto the rebuilt speaker. Of course on the '69 the speakers are in the kick panels which make removal and replacement very easy and once installed the new connectors can't be seen.

Jimmy’s response above is spot on. I was able to correct a dead left speaker by cleaning all of the speaker connections accessible behind the right hand dash pad. It’s worked fine for over a year now. Every once in a while you get lucky.
