    1961 window adjustment

my manual windows go up and down fine, but I just put the hardtop back on and the windows do not reach high enough. The passenger side hits the rear track when it is 1/4 down. The drivers side doesn't seem to be hitting anything but it is not reaching the top. Before I go on, let me say-it is not the door stops! The 61 GM car guide mentions cam screws. I may have located them, but if you loosen them how do you adjust the cams? Seems like other enquirers about 1962 window adjustment get hijacked to the door stops or newer years which don't apply. Can someone please inform me as to 1961 window adjustment. Thanks. Richard

Richard, The "window" stops are used to control vertical movement and horizontal angle. I've never heard the term "cam screws", and I've done many C1 windows and tops over the years. Pictures would help showing your gaps and the "cam" screws you've referenced.

If you are talking about the large Phillips screws which hold the regulator track rollers, yes there is a larger hole in the inner door skin, some slotted, to allow some movement, but not really a "cam". You may be able to get some movement of the tracks, but you'll likely also have to adjust the window stops as they'd interfere with the movement of the tracks.

    But, a few questions:

1- Do you have a soft top? If so, did the windows reach the top of the side frames properly, where the side frame is straight and not sagged at center?

2- Were the windows stops initially adjusted to the soft top, or to the hard top?

Standard procedure is to always adjust side windows to the hard top first, then adjust the soft top frame to mate with the rolled up windows without touching the window stops or any other adjustment.

Here are a few reference images of a 2 top car, before I restored and installed the soft top.

Hardtop set, windows adjusted properly to mate upper w/strip.

When the soft top frame is installed, it must be adjusted to the windows as they sit raised already adjusted to the hard top. The frame to body brackets are the only things to adjust when doing this assembly.

Now if you don't have a soft top, then we'll need to discuss some other possibilities.

PS I see you're in Australia so this may take some time.
