After a long run, I shut off and restarted my 61 (270, dual quad) and it backfired I think through the carbs. Anyway, I took off the air cleaner and there was gas dripping down in the secondaries on the front carb while the engine was running. I noticed gas coming out of the large gasgeted nut on top of the carb as well as the gasget to the air cleaner was wet. I tapped the top of that carb and it stopped dripping. Questions: 1-Was this the cause of the backfire? 2-Is there suppose to be gas coming through that front carb at idle? 3- What causes an erratic idle (600 to 1000 rpm without touching the gas)? 4- What is the procedure for adjusting the air/idle mixture and on both carbs? 5- Presuming it starts to drip again, where should I start? Thanks in advance for any help.................

Re: WCFB carb leakage issues
1- Probably.
2- No.
3 and 5- Tapping a carburetor that's overflowing with fuel is an old school way of "fixing" a sticking float/needle. I would start there as a possible cause.
4. Don't know; I'm a Quadrajet guy. Is the procedure in the shop manual?Mark Edmondson
