Best Way To Clean Up Battery Acid In A C2(1966)

We all know that it is a PITA to R & R a Battery in a C2. Have nice Group 24 "Sealed" Delco Battery for
my 1966(Non-Air). Found out the hard way they are not completely Sealed. When tilting the Battery for installation/
    removal
some acid will escape the "Vent Holes". What is best way to clean this up? Just Water or ??. Have to go
through this every Spring/Fall for Winter Prep. Could not find a good answer when I searched this board.
ANY IDEA'S OR SUGGESTIONS??? THANKS IN ADVANCE>LARRY

Larry, while I'm not a chemist, I believe that Baking Soda (not baking powder) will help neutralize the acid. (Baking soda is a base). Perhaps making a baking soda liquid paste (using distilled water) and applying to the affected areas with a paint brush might be the first step. Then a flush with water to remove the residue after a minute or two. The first step is to weaken the effects of the acid, in my opinion.

      Larry,

As Bill mentioned and as also mentioned in this link, "White corrosion around the terminals can be removed with a solution of baking soda and water. Add 3 tsp baking soda to 10 oz f water. Stir the solution until the baking soda is dissolved. Move the vehicle to the street, because sometimes the solution can stain the driveway."

And here's another option from the link below:
I've never used this stuff - and it might be the equivalent of "fu fu juice", but it looked interesting.
And of course, they don't tell you what's in it that makes it "work"

Get support for your E404 Corrosion Preventative.
      thx,
      Mark

Where are the vent holes? If they are on one end, tilt the battery away from that side. Or place the battery in a plastic bag, tilt and drop in, then slide the bag out. Flush with water all around the battery. Blow all around with compressed air. I have installed many batteries bye just tilting on end and down in the slot. Never had a drop leak out. It doesn't even take 30 seconds.

          Hi Larry,

I would suggest that it might be easier to install a battery cutoff switch and leave the battery in the car. Why do you remove the battery in the fall and reinstall in the spring?

          Joe

Thanks Joe and John for response. 1st>There are two vent holes on my Group 24 Battery;one on each end on top of sides.
2nd>Have cut off switch installed. Have to remove battery for Winter due to my Building having no heat and car being stored
in an "Omni" Car Bag. It is a must to remove battery when car is stored in one of these bags. Thanks>Larry

Only reason a chemist could possibly say you cannot store battery in the bag is due to vented battery outgassing. A true sealed AGM would not have this problem as you can position the battery in any position and nothing comes out. Nor is it an issue in MI winters so long as the car is in a garage. Maybe not even outside.

Have you tried a piece of duct tape over the vent holes until you get it in?

John: Thanks for input; Yes that thought has crossed my mind also. Will take your advice and try this. It may not stop
the acid coming out completely but will control it where it goes for sure. Thanks again>Larry

John: Yes; got it out OK. With the tape on the vents not much if any acid escaped. Will do a little clean up
work(Not Much) before storing. Doing it early this year because we are switching vehicles in and out. BTW>
The only Corvette Battery R&R that is just as bad as the C2 is the C3 Coupe.JMHO One has to look like the person
