Re: 1963 Parking Brake Handle Assembly Restoration???
Mike,
When you say "restore" what would you like to happen? If you remove the assembly, it's real easy to remove the handle and shaft from the housing. Just remove the stop pin and the shaft will slide out of the housing. Just watch the configuration of the pawls and springs inside the housing. Then you can sandblast and repaint it. As far as the handle is concerned, if the letters need painting, paint over the letters and after drying, use lacquer thinner and a thin rag and clean the handle of excess paint leaving the newly painted letters. Then reassemble. Check your AIM and other parts catalogue for detailed pictures. Just watch the placement of the brake light switch so when you reassemble, you wont break your back trying to get it positioned correctly.- Top

Re: 1963 Parking Brake Handle Assembly Restoration???
Mike,
More than likely, your front parking brake cable needs to be replaced. I had to replace my two back cables as they were impossible to activate. Try starting with the new front cable. In addition, if you disconnect the front cable from the bracket under the car where it connects to the rear cables, are you able to move that bar freely? if so, it's probably the front cable. Let us know how you make out.

Harry, Great picture on Ebay that explains where this switch is located. Bob, when you're ready to install your brake handle, I would suggest removing your directional lever and steering wheel. It will be much more comfortable!!- Top
