Not a chance it's original. This was hand stamped with individual dies and a VERY poor job, at that.

Some would say it looks so bad, it must be real. I would not be one of them. Move on. Chip.

Thanks. I was on the same page as Paul , it looks so bad maybe it is right. Who would do this thinking it would work

It works to make an engine "numbers matching".

Too funny Don. The seller should have listed it on BaT. The geniuses who comment on pads there would probably say it's an anomaly and that is real lol.

you bet, they would say looks good, but verify with Al Greening first.

The day Stevie Wonder realized he wouldn't be working on the VIN stamping line at the Corvette Assembly Plant.

                            Re: 1969 engine pad

Seriously, if the car was otherwise very good, I wouldn't worry about the pad. It would not surprise me if the numbers were put on there by a machine shop after decking. Would be interesting to know how casting numbers and dates line up. I doubt that was a serious attempt at counterfeiting unless it is a rare, optional engine. If that is the case, it was a sad attempt. If Flight judging and ORIGINAL matching numbers are important to you, this is not the car for you. Chip.
