This is a follow-on thread to my earlier thread on 1969-71 alternator rectifiers.
The alternator rectifier used for 1972 Corvette alternators was GM #1852209. This rectifier had a black plastic "insulator" fused to the side which can be seen through the cooling slots in the rear case (I cannot guarantee that all 1852209 had an "insulator" which was black in color). Below find an NOS example of a 1852209 [not for sale].This example was manufactured February 4, 1972:

The GM #1852209 was discontinued from SERVICE in November, 1981 and replaced by GM #1875627. The latter was used in PRODUCTION for 1973-78 Corvettes and is pictured below, This example was manufactured December 29, 1979:

The 1875627 was discontinued from SERVICE in September, 1993 and replaced by the GM #1984638. An example of the 1984638 is shown below. Note that the configuration of the plastic "insulator", which as previously mentioned can be seen through the rear case cooling slots, is considerably different:

The 1984638 is now discontinued without supercession.
