Ray------In search of pictures on my ‘71s Power Brake master cylinder to brake booster’s retainer seal (GM #3987620) and gasket (GM #730392).

These two parts are shown in my ‘71 AiM, UPC &J50, Sheet A1, items #4 and #5. I searched thru the website and couldn’t find anything on the retainer and only found verbage on the gasket.

These two parts were not on my originally owner ‘71. I just had my original master cylinder & booster restored and would like to put them on
per the AIM as minimize any contamination.
As far as I can determine, GM #3987620 never existed; I think the AIM reference to 3987620 was an error. The actual part number was GM #9787620.It was discontinued without supercession in February, 1993.
The GM #730392 gasket was discontinued without supercession in October, 1992.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Ray------Joe,
Thanks for the info . . .
Looking further in our prior posts, I've noticed that there seems to be some "debate" on whether the seal was actually installed and/or required (to eliminate contamination). Since I've owned my '71 <1 since new, I would like your personal thoughts on my putting the seal on.
Since the original seal and retainer are no longer available, I've attached two seal reproductions that are being offered today. Not sure which one would be better. It looks like the foam seal requires the retainer and the o-ring seal does not. Your thoughts on these?
Or, would it be better to create a new flat seal, using buno-n 70A flat rubber (of which I don't know the thickness should be)?
Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks.

I cannot be of much help on this question. I do not have any real familiarity with this. However, I think the pieces you picture would function satisfactorily mostly because I don't see why they are really necessary. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
