Ed I always in stal all wheels by running up lugs about hand tight and then tighten a half turn or so at a time cross ways until at spec. If that does not look right maybe the wheel is out of round. Try it at another corner.

Bill: Appreciate the guidance. Do the wheels need to be off the ground? Would the right rear wheel lugs need to be tighter to the right or left? Finally, do I need to just tighter the spinner or the lugs? Many thanks. Best, Ned

When you say direct bolt-on wheels, the spinner has nothing to do with tightening the wheel. Do you mean you have wheels that have an adapter that bolts on and then the wheel is installed over the adapter and the spinner tightens it? If so the wheel is not engaging the pins but is riding on the lugnuts which will not allow it to tighten and will damage the wheel if you drive on it. A picture would clear things up.

Ed the wheels should be off the ground i installed a set of direct bolt on knock offs about 20 years ago so I do not remember how I installed the spinner. I am sure the company you bought them from can help you with that

              1. Remove the center cap, easiest with a suction cup sold by Zip. 2. Loosen the spinner (direction is on the spinner). The sides are different, there is a left and right. Take the spinner off & the cup will come off. 3. You can now see the lug nuts to remove. Once the spinner and cup are off you can also remove the spinner adaptor but that is not required to take the wheel off. That is how my Corvette America ones work that I've had for over 20 years. I know the spinner adaptor is different in the two current models that are available. Good luck.

A number of years ago Bill Sangrey wrote an article for the Restorer on a technique to tighten the spinners. Sorry but I do not know the issue.
